Kovren was built on a belief that precision craftsmanship shouldn’t require a bulk order, a corporate account, or a hassle. We are a husband-and-wife team who brought together decades of experience across theatrical lighting design, luxury hospitality, healthcare, and fine craftsmanship — and put all of it into a single studio where every detail is handled with intent.
We don’t just make things. We manage the entire process — from first design conversation through final delivery. Shipping, certifications, coordination — all of it. You focus on the vision. We handle everything else.
The founders
Matthew Paupst
CEO & co-founder
Matthew was born and raised in New York and studied theatrical lighting design at SUNY Purchase — a discipline built entirely on the art of precision in service of experience. That foundation carried him into a career operating at the highest levels of the industry: designing and executing installations for premier hotels and residences across Las Vegas, and working directly with Hollywood clientele where the margin for error was effectively zero.
What that career built wasn’t just technical expertise. It built an instinct for the details that most people never notice, and a standard of customer service that treats every project as the most important one on the floor. That standard is the foundation Kovren is built on.
Vesna Paupst
COO & co-founder
Vesna was born in Chicago and shaped by her years in Negotin, Serbia — an upbringing that gave her a design sensibility rooted in two cultures and a perspective that consistently distinguishes Kovren’s work. As a registered nurse, she was trained not just to be detail-oriented, but to identify the details that are critical — because in her field, the difference between close and correct matters enormously.
That clinical precision carries directly into how she approaches every Kovren project: with a sharp eye, a refined design instinct, and the kind of warmth that makes customers feel genuinely looked after. She helps steer creative direction on HyperNova — a children’s entertainment space in Negotin, Serbia, where local ownership brought a blank canvas and the Kovren Team developed the vision, led all supplier collaboration while the owner managed on-site construction, and continues to handle marketing, social media, and web presence for the venue. She brings that same ambition to every project that comes through the studio. She is also mother to their son, Alex.
Together, they bring a combined design standard and professional discipline that most studios simply can’t replicate.
